OPAL’s Holiday Wishlist

With Halloween behind us, the holidays are officially here! Below, we are excited to present OPAL’s Holiday Wishlist – our key priorities as the year comes to a close!

1) $15,000 in the GiveGuide!

OPAL is proud to once again be a part of the Willamette Week Give!Guide. We stand among the most impactful nonprofits in Portland. And there’s a special holiday twist! An anonymous donor has agreed to give us an additional $5000, if we’re able to get to $15,000 this year. Our goal is to raise $15,000 in new donations in November and December! Make a gift today!

2) Defend YouthPass!

East Portland schools are running out of YouthPass funds, and there’s no current plan to replace them. We hope TriMet can utilize unused resources from other schools (who aren’t using the money) to save the program in East Portland, particularly at Parkrose High School where the program has been hugely successful. To help out: sign our petition for TriMet to keep funding this successful program!

3) Stop the Fare Hike – join BRU!

TriMet plans to raise fares every two years for the next decade. They’re also shaming poor people for not paying fare. TriMet can find resources from other sources that don’t hit riders harder. We can stop this hike through rider unity! Join us on November 21st as we build out our plan to beat the fare hike!

4) Help Us Build Our Team!

OPAL is hiring for a new position – Director of Development and Finance! We need a movement leader who knows how to raise and organize money! OPAL seeks someone to manage the resources that support organizing people and moving our campaigns and strategies. Details here.

5) Be in Community with Us!

There are many chances upcoming to show up for communities of color and build power for environmental justice, transit equity, and a just transition. Members are holding a Holiday Party in December. A new space for BIPOC to organize for climate justice, Seeding Our Liberation (SOL) is hosting a fall meeting. We’re co-hosting two karaoke fundraisers: Sing for Safety NEXT THURSDAY! Plus a joint event with Bark in December. We’ll be holding our annual Thank-A-Thon later on this month. Check it all out on the OPAL Public Events Calendar.

As the year ends, we continue to gather and build power. Become active with OPAL, and link up with a movement of movements.
