YouthPass is Transit Equity

Today, on civil rights leader Rosa Parks birthday, we celebrate her work and Transit Equity Day, a collaborative effort among several organizations and unions to promote access to public transportation as a civil right and a strategy to combat climate change. Access to YouthPass is a transit equity issue that youth of color have been leading since the 1990s. Beginning with the organizing of the young Black women of Sisters in Action for Power, we have built upon this legacy through the YEJA campaign, YouthPass to the Future. As one YEJA member recently stated, “Transportation is the bridge that connects me closer to improving my community and myself.” Take a look at our timeline of Youth Transit Advocacy here in Portland.23
