Announcing the Transit Union Fellowship

This program has produced a number of organizers who have gone on to do amazing work in the Social Justice movement. We are proud of the work we have accomplished through OIT. In 2018, we are revamping this program to have a bigger presence on transit and engage more community members.

Are you or someone you know interested in learning how to run grassroots campaigns? Do you come from a community facing environmental racism, economic exploitation, and climate change? Are you ready to embark on an adventure that will win real victories in Portland and across Oregon?

The Transit Union Fellowship (TUF) is a program designed to help folks expand their skillsets to advance and run effective campaigns around Transit Justice. This 6-month program will require a 20-hour commitment each month. We will provide training, stipends ($20/hour), and the opportunity to develop and run effective campaigns to improve the lives of community members.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a TUF? Download, complete, and return the application. Click here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Fellowship pay?

Yes! Transit Union Fellows receive $20 hourly for approximately 20 hours per month.

Are there age, education, or experience requirements?

The program is open to everyone 18 years or older. If you’re under 18, consider joining the Youth Environmental Justice Alliance. We hope to build a diverse TUF cohort. We encourage participants from historically-marginalized communities to apply.

What are the hours worked?

We’re flexible! We want you to learn to organize, which can lead to full-time opportunities in the future. This is a learn-by-doing, paid internship.
